New to yoga?

Don’t worry, we have all had a first class before! At flow. we understand that the first step is the hardest and we want to take that first step together. We know it can be pretty intimidating walking into a yoga studio for the first time. Here are some things you can expect during your first class.

  • No shoes.
We practice yoga in barefeet to help us get grounded.
  • No phones.
This is a time for you. Use this as an opportunity to turn off the outside distractions and let your mind be at peace.
  • Arrive early.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes before class starts so that you can get all of the props you need and get settled on your mat.
  • Brief us on you.
Let your instructor know of any injuries or special needs you may have. At flow., we want to get to know you! The more we know, the better equipped we are to help you meet your goals.
  • Wear comfortable clothing.
You will want wear something that is comfortable and that will stay in place.
  • Zero judgment.
We promise no one is looking at you! Yoga is a challenging practice both physically and mentally. Everyone at flow. is doing their best with what they have that day and wants to provide the same level of acceptance to everyone in the room.
  • It’s like a foreign language!
Don’t worry if you have no clue what pose was called and you don’t know an updog from a downdog. Our team of instructors provides verbal cues to get your body where is needs to be. The good news is that each time you come, you learn a little more and can do a little more so that one day you are the one welcoming the first timer!
  • Turn your ears on!
It can be really difficult when we are in new situations to listen rather than get in our head and spiral out of control. The only thing we ask is that you come ready to listen and do what you can. We will help you with all the rest!
  • Just keep going!
There will be times during the practice that you will question your decision of coming to yoga that day. Stay the course and just keep going. Even our team of teachers has one of these moments from time to time on our own mat. Keep the promise you made to yourself when you showed up and see it through. Remember, trying something for the first time is always the hardest part. Plus, the best part of class is savasana when the lights go down and you get a cold essential oil towel.
